Overview Of Information Science Engineering

The Information Science & Engineering department was established in the year 2007. The department is affiliated to VTU and offers a full time Bachelor in Engineering (ISE) and Master of Technology Degrees (Networking). The present undergraduate intake of the department is 120 & master degree is 24. The students from different parts of the country are studying in the branch. The department has technically & industrially qualified trainers, and trains the students for the certifications like MTA, MCP, MCSE, RHCE, HP-ATA etc.
The faculties are industry equipped, Microsoft Technology Certified, well experienced and highly qualified professionals. Apart from the teaching, the faculty members are also pursuing research and higher studies at reputed institutes. All the supporting staff’s are also technically competent & Microsoft Technology Certified professionals. The department has arranged various training programs, pre-placement orientation, on-campus recruitment programs, seminars, career guidance assistance to the students. The college is having a separate department for Placement with qualified and experienced staff. The college is a nodal center for Infosys’s Campus Connect, and Wipro’s Mission 10X. Students also gets the facilities like GATE training & Computer Courses certified by NIIT training.
Industry interactions and workshops are conducted on a regular basis. The department also conducts other value added courses for the staff & students after the regular working hours to meet the demand of the industry. The department has set up the state-of-the-art laboratories with computing facilities like IPv6, Linux, Cloud, etc. The department is provided with spacious and well furnished, high tech labs & classrooms. The college has 20 Mbps leased line for Internet facility.

Club Activities Of Information Science Engineering

STAISE Student Association 2016-17 Inaugurated

STAISE, Association of Information Science & Engineering Department was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Jitesh B V, Project Lead, Tech Mahindra, Germany, Chief Guest of the programme. Mr. Jitesh, in his inaugural address emphasized on the need for the students to learn multiple technologies and participate in co-curricular and extra co-curricular activities. The guest of honour Prof. Umashankar B S, addressed the students on the importance of outlining a road map in order to reach the goal successfully. Dr. A P Manu, President & HOD of the department extended a warm welcome to the third semester students and highlighted the various programs to be conducted under the umbrella of the association. The special attraction of the event was the theme - "Namma Kudla".


STAISE Student Association 2015-16 Inaugurated

Students' Technical Association of Information Science and Engineering (STAISE), a student association of the Department of Information Science & Engineering was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. Umashankar B S, Dean Academics for the academic year 2015-16. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest stressed on the importance of non- violence and peace that students have to embrace. He witnessed the oath on non-violence that the students undertook to follow. He further stressed the importance of taking up projects that will help in social reforms.
Dr. A.P. Manu, the head of the department in his presidential speech briefed about the various activities that the association has planned for the current academic year. He welcomed all the Semester III students of the department and stressed on the importance of these activities in the professional growth of the students. The academic toppers of various semesters were felicitated for their excellence in academics.
Students showcased their talent through a cultural program after the formal function ended.  

Outgoing Students of Information Science & Engineering Bid Farewell

The outgoing students of the current academic year of the department of  Information Science & Engineering were given a farewell by STAISE; the student  association of the department. Mr. Arun Kumar Nayak A., Project Manager,  Infosys Ltd. was the Chief Guest.  He addressed the outgoing students on  opportunities in software companies and also briefed about the placement  procedures. Prof. Manu A. P., the Head of the Department, informed the students  about the code of conduct and nature of job in the software industry. He also  extended a helping hand from the department side for any technical problems that  they may come across. The faculty members appreciated the students for their  achievements in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. On this occasion,  outgoing students shared their views on their academic journey at Sahyadri. The  outgoing students were wished the best for a bright future.

Students Technical Association of Information Science & Engineering (STAISE) - 2014 -15

On 20th March, 2015, IS department association traditional day was celebrated. For the STAISE program Prof. Rashmi Bhndari, Head of the department of Placement was invited as the Chief Guest and Prof. Umashankar B S, Dean (A) became the Guest of Honor.  The function was also chaired by Dr. A P Manu, HoD of ISE, as President of the association, Prof. Shruthi Ramdas, Asst. Prof. of ISE as Staff coordinator and Mr. Sanoj S student coordinator.
The chief guest highlighted about the importance of technical skills, what should be concentrated during study, and some important useful tips about the placement process. Dean (A) mentioned about the innovation, research and its importance in the engineering study how it can be cultivated in study. The hed of the department briefed about the achievement of STAISE &  IS department and also  upcoming programs under the umbrella of this. Staff coordinator welcomed the dignitaries and all participants. Student coordinator gave vote of thanks during his speech.
After that, certificates and cash award was felicitated to all the academic toppers. The winners of the sports and activities were distributed with certificates and cash award.

The department of ISE inaugurated new association as after got separated by CS department. The association was inaugurated by Prof. K Mitra, HoD of Mathematics. Before this, both the departments conducting programs under TOXICS. The chief guest briefed about the application of mathematics related to engineering very well.

TOXICS 2013-14 Students Association Inaugurated

A Student Association of the Department of Computer Science Engineering & Information Science & Engineering was inaugurated by Mr. Sudheer Pakkala, Software Test Manager, Timken Engineering Research India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.

Mr. Sudheer Shetty, HoD of CSE and the President of TOXICS, welcomed the Chief Guest, the staff, and the second year students of CSE and ISE. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, the Principal, in his presidential address said that the association must help the students in developing their skills and this should lead to the overall development of their personality. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean-Academics was present during the function. Dr. Manu A. P., HoD of ISE and the advisor of TOXICS, gave motivational guidelines to the students and wished them the best in the coming events to be conducted by TOXICS. The General Secretary, Mr. Gautham J. Shetty, gave an overview of the Association activities of the year 2012-13 and the activities planned for the current academic year. The HoDs of various departments were present on the occasion.

On the occasion, Mr. Sudheer Pakkala, the Chief Guest, delivered a technical talk on, “Business Process Testing." He shared his immense knowledge about software testing and its application in business process. He gave a glimpse of the scope and advancements in this field.  

The staff co-ordinator, Ms. Mehanaz Begum, read out the names of the VTU toppers of all semesters of CSE and ISE and they were honored on this occasion with a certificate and a gift voucher by the chief guest.  

Mr. Sagar S. Shetty, the Vice-President of TOXICS, proposed the Vote of thanks. Various technical and non-technical events like Technical Treasure Hunt, Technical Dumb charades, Cooking without fire, and variety programmes by students and staff were carried out in the afternoon session where the students were given an opportunity to showcase their talents.

The president of TOXICS, HOD of CSE and ISE, welcomed the chief Guest, the staff, and the second year students of CSE and ISE. The general secretary, Mr. Sagar Shetty, gave an overview of the Association activities of the year 2011-12 and the activities planned for the current academic year.

Dr. U. B. Pavanaja, the chief guest, addressed the gathering and shared his immense knowledge. He delivered a technical talk on “Software Internationalization/Localization." He spoke about the necessity of localization and globalization of the languages. He gave a glimpse of the scope and advancements in this field.

Meritorious students and VTU toppers were honoured on this occasion with a certificate and a gift voucher by the chief guest. Various technical and non-technical events like IT Quiz, Cooking without fire, Super Trios (A mixture of programming and non-programming events) were carried out in the afternoon session where the students were given an opportunity to showcase their talents.

Dr. A P Manu, HoD of ISE attended one day workshop on Cloud Computing at VTU Regional Center, Mysore,on 5th december2015. IBM Bluemix is a Digital Innovation Platform for the next generation, which is used to create, deploy & manage applications in the cloud.

28th February, 2015 - Project Report Writing using LaTeX

Eighth semester IS department students were given hands on experience in the report writing tool. They will be using this tool for their final project report generation.

10th September 2014 - LiveWire Exam

A total of 80 students participated from the department of ISE in LiveWire exam, which is a Cisco Talent Hunt program.  Among them 10 students qualified for the second round. All 10 students got the free training on Cisco Routing and Switching Concepts at Mangalore Cisco training center. The second level qualified students were Soumya Shree K, Priyanka, Yakshita Shetty, Lizvita S T, Nireeksha, Namrata Valal, Sushmitha Shetty, Divya Kasturi, Megha M G and Navyashree Shetty B.

In50hrs : The Idea to Prototype Event - Chennai

In50Hrs is a Weekend Idea-To-Prototype Event where people with Ideas, Developers, and Designers come together to give life to ideas and have working prototypes before the weekend is out, present it to a room full of like-minded folks, and perhaps pave the way for the beginning of a new product. Mr. Ahmad Faizal B H, Vinay & Brian participated in this program. Program was conducted on   September 27, 2013.

Mr. Dorai Thodla Training Program

Friday, 16th August had a meeting with Vinay, Ahmad and Brian, discussed their progress & presentations. Later met the old batch students and discussed the projects.Saturday, 17th August first half: Addressed the entire group for 4 hours, including a panel discussion from interns - Vinay, Brian, Ahmad and some videos and talk by the resource person. In the second half the interested 50 students were small grouped  and first two groups were rigorously trained. Sunday, 18 August, the rest of the group were trained. Question and Answer sessions were kept at the end each day.

Microsoft Certifications Training Program

Microsoft Certifications Training Program was conducted on 16th & 17th July - 2013. The Training Program, targeted towards the MOS & MTA certifications. The resource person Mr. Ditesh Meher trained 80 students for two full days.

Microsoft Certifications Training Program was conducted on 16th & 14th July 2013 Microsoft Certified Professionals (MCP) enrolled students were trained by the Ms. Chinmayee Panda for 8 days. A total of 10 students were participated in this program. 

Faculty attended the Microsoft's Ed-vantage Summit held at Hyderabad

Mr. Sourabh Prakash of ISE and Mr. Pavan Kumar V of CSE attended the faculty summit held at Hyderabad on 22nd May 2013. It was called to interact with all college representatives to bring an idea about benefit of the Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC), to provide the procedure for getting MIC and also to share some of the successful case studies of in and around the states. The main focus was to make Educators (Faculties) aware and comfortable about  the Ed –vantage agenda.

Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC)

Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management is recognized as (90051646) Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC). Under this Microsoft's related certificate online exams  like the MOS, MTA and MCP can be conducted at Sahyadri. And also it provided the platform for conducting HP certification exams.

4th March 2013 - Police IT Project

Superintendent of Police Mr. Abhishek Goel IPS offered few challenging projects for Sahyadri students. In this regard 21 students and 4 faculty members visited few Police stations along with the NIT-K staff and student members. Many projects were identified and few of them implemented.

Inauguration-Ceremony-of-Mozilla-Club-organised-by-ISE-Department Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management is the Regional centre of Mozilla Club, hence the Inauguration Ceremony was held in Sahyadri Campus in the presence of Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal, Prof. Balakrishna S S, Vice-Principal, Dr. J V Gorbal, Dean Academics, Mr. Sudheer Shetty, HoD, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Prof. Purushotham C T, HoD, Department of Civil Engineering and the continued support of Dr. A P Manu, HoD, ISE Department.

Faculty Member Attends Workshop at Guwahati

Mr Naitik ST, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Science & Engineering attended a three-day workshop with hands-on training on User-Centric Mobile Computing organised by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT, Guwahati. 

User-centric computing, particularly in the context of mobile devices, is an emerging field of study. With the advent of affordable smart phones and wearable computers, the field has gained even more prominence.The course was aimed to equip the participants with the fundamental concepts necessary for the understanding of the area, along with hands-on exercises on Android programming, an essential component of user-centric mobile computing.

 

Inter college workshop on Game Development using Unity Software

The Program Club organized a two days workshop on Game Development using Unity Software on 28 & 29th March 2015. The program was formally inaugurated by Prof. B S Umashankar, Dean Academics. The resource person was Mr. Sujith S of Skyfi Software Ltd.

 A total of 26 students got benefited by this program. 15 students from Canara College of Engineering participated along with the Sahyadrins.

Prestigious Microsoft - EduKinect Yappon Event 2014 at Sahyadri

The department organized Microsoft Training and Certification Program as a result of that 50 students, 4 staff members, and 4 faculties qualified the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exams in domains like Networking, Database Administration and Server Administration Fundamentals. Dr. A P Manu trained the interested faculties and students.Microsoft Edukinect Yappon - 2014 event held second time at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangalore on 20/09/2014 at 9.00 AM. A total of 296 students participated from various branches of Engineering and other disciplines.
Yappon is a 24 hour program, where a team has to build the Microsoft app. This event started on Saturday at 9.00AM and ended on Sunday at 9.00 AM. A total of 80 teams participated in this event and developed 94 Windows Applications. Last year 80 groups formed out of 186 students, developed a total of 62 apps.
The top 3 teams received a cash award, T shirts and certificates, and one team received a consolation award. And the rest of the participants received participation certificates. 

First Topper: Developed 1 Windows app and 3 Windows game (monster Attack, Dark City Run and Jelly rush). They bagged a cash prize of 5 thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Priyanka Shetty (4SF12CS070), Chaithra Shetty (4SF12CS025), Shreyanka Shetty (4SF12CS102) and Sangeetha K (4SF12CS091) of the 5th sem CS department. 

Second Topper: Developed 5 Windows game (Dodge IT, Facto-o-Tree, Have Eat, Sky Marble and Anglo Fence). They bagged a cash prize of 3 thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Ankit Pratap Singh (4SF13IS008), Gouse Khan (4SF13IS025) of IS department and Atif Khan (4SF12EC024), Ranjith Ram M (4SF12EC081) of EC department. 

Third Topper: Developed one Windows app (HelpEd). They bagged a cash prize of 2 thousand, T-shirts and certificates. The team members were Preetham (4SF12CS068), Sona Krishnan (4SF11CS104) of CS department and Kruthi K K (4SF12EC051), Anvitha U S (4SF12EC015) of EC department. 

Consolation: Developed one Windows App (Namaste Mangalore). They bagged T-shirts and certificates. The team members were K Swathi (4SF13CS034), M S Nazriya Begum (4SF13CS045), Gunavathi S Anchan (4SF13CS028), and Deepali Chandrahas Kumble (4SF13CS040) of the CS department. The cash award and certificates were felicitated by the Sri Mrityunjay Bhadauria, CEO and Co-Founder of Edukinect.

A total of 80 students participated from the department of ISE in LiveWire exam, which is a Cisco Talent Hunt program. Among them 10 students qualified for the second round. All 10 students got the free training on Cisco Routing and Switching Concepts at Mangalore Cisco training center. The second level qualified students were Soumya Shree K, Priyanka, Yakshita Shetty, Lizvita S T, Nireeksha, Namrata Valal, Sushmitha Shetty, Divya Kasturi, Megha M G and Navyashree Shetty B.


 

Microsoft Appathon Contest

A webinar program was arranged on 25th February, 2014 at 5.00 PM to train the Microsoft Apps’ developer aspirants. Total 126 students participated in this program. The program was of one hour duration in this informed about how to get prepare about the contest, and also briefed about the resources available links.

 

First time in Karnataka Ed-vantage YAPPON Program at Sahyadri

Ed-vantage YAPPON is India’s largest 24 hours hackathon Microsoft Apps’ development coding program organized by Edukinect and Microsoft for the aspiring Indian youth. It is inviting developers across India from Engineering colleges, leading industry partners on a platform to collaborate. Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore is the first College in Karnataka to get the Microsoft's prestigious Platinum Ed-vantage Academic Alliance.
The program started on 26th April, 2013 at 9.00 AM and ended on 27th April, 2013 at 9.00 AM. Around 210 students form different colleges were enrolled for the participation and the top 5 teams were awarded with a cash price of Rs. 5000/- each and participation certificates to all participants. More than 600 students witnessed the program.

Windows Apps Development Training Program

Two days Yappon Contest preparation training organized for the Sahyadri students to make them equipped with the desired skill set on 24th & 25th April - 2013. The Edukinect trainer Mr. Sai Kiran & Mr. Sai Rathan trained our 150 students. The training started at 9 and went up to 6 as a long marathon. This was the first time in Sahyadri, the students learned with full of fun.

Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC)

Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management is recognized as (90051646) Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC). Under this Microsoft's related certificate online exams  like the MOS, MTA and MCP can be conducted at Sahyadri. And also it provided the platform for conducting HP certification exams.

7th & 8th March - 2013 Training & Internship program by Mr. Dorai Thodla

Day - 1: Training & Internship program in CS / IS / EC students was organized. On the first day made the discussion about projects. A small talk on how to come up with new ideas for projects or look at publicly available sources (like Google, Microsoft) and how to select the ones, made for fresher.  The process of idealization was explained to those who are a fresh and were not knowing the beginning of the project. Based on their ideas separate subgroups were formed. The second group of people who came with ideas were asked them to give presentation separately. With one to one the problems were discussed and suggestions were provided. A milestone was set for their project. 

Day-2: Python Workshop for half a day conducted for all the students and they were given hands on about the project.  And also explained about doing research. Around 25 students participated in this program. 

Training on Python and Internship Identifieng Program by Mr. Dorai Thodla

A rigorous training on Python program was conducted on 18th February 2013 and spanned over two complete days including tutorial class, hands on testing & coding exercises, evaluation. Many students from different branches attended the program and among them 1. Vinay Ragavan (EC) 2. Brian Antony (EC) 3. Koshik Raj (CS) 4. Ahmed Faizal (CS) were shortlisted by the Mr. Dorai Thodla, CEO, iMorph Inc. Ltd. internship. They get the training for 2 months. And then the internship consisting of Rs. 5000 for first 3 months and then Rs.10000 for remaining 3 months.  Apart from these all participated students got benefited by getting  projects under the guidance of Mr. Dorai Thodla. Total 43 students participated in this program.

Microsoft Application Development Contest (Appathon) at sahyadri

The Prestigious Microsoft Application Development Contest (Appathon) has begun at Sahyadri. Appathon is spread over four-week duration, and each week there will be a check point which will be monitored and evaluated by the Microsoft concern team. The best application will be rewarded by the team. Sahyadri students will develop an app using Microsoft technology.  Mr. Jaganmohan Naidu of Microsoft started the roadmap show and tossed various ideas across the groups to initiate the program. The program also includes hands-on-experience like developing apps, launching apps, etc.  The program went on throughout the day and around 150 students of various engineering streams participated and got an end-to-end development benefit from this interaction.

Yappon is a 24 hour program, where a team has to build the Microsoft app. 80 teams participated in this event and developed 94 Windows Applications. Anchan, and Deepali Chandrahas Kumble of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. Following students of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management cleared the Microsoft’s 98-366 :MTA: Networking Fundamentals exam, with good score, which is a worldwide recognized certification. This is an online, performance based certification program. They were trained by Dr. A P Manu, HoD of Information Science and Engineering. The certified students’ are targeted to qualify MCP & MCSE exams.

MTA is the starting step for MCP and other Microsoft’s related exams. The college has Certiport authorized MTA & MCP Test Center. Only a few colleges have such facilities.
