AICTE Sponsored One-Week STTP on “Innovative Approaches in Teaching Pedagogy”

Day Three (2nd June 2021):
Dr. Rajesha S, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru
First session was carried out by Dr. Rajesha S, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru on the topic - “Interactive/Participative Learning”. He is a B.E, M.Tech and Ph.D. He has been leading Sahyadri since 2018 and has spearheaded the team to achieve NBA accreditation in 2020 for the 5 departments in Engineering. He has also been granted a Patent recently for an invention.
Before sharing the concept in detail, Dr. Rajesha S sought insight from the participants on interactive and participative learning. He then re-iterated the challenges in teaching and learning process and stimulated them to be facilitators than teachers. He further explained how students can be assessed using rubrics.
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor-Sahyadri, Cyber Law & Security Expert
Second Session was facilitated by Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor-Sahyadri, Cyber Law & Security Expert on the topic - “Effectively and Securely engaging Online Lectures”. He is a B.E, MBA, M.Tech, Diploma in Cyber Law, PhD and a Post Doctoral Fellow. He was recognized as 1 among the 30 ‘Unsung Heroes of India’ by India Today in 2019. He is also the Karnataka Rajyotsava Awardee 2020.
Dr. Ananth Prabhu G gave insights on preparation for Online classes - Tools to be used, infrastructure requirement and common mistakes to be avoided during an online session. He also gave some useful tips on how to control the class participation in terms of attendance, giving assignments, conducting exams, engaging students. During the presentation he cautioned the participants about the cyber threats that possibly have an impact on online mode of teaching and how one can avoid the same by following a few simple rules.
Mr. Gautham Nayak, Program Director-Technical Career Education
Third Session was taken by Mr. Gautham Nayak, Program Director-Technical Career Education on the topic - “Brain Storming”. Mr. Gautham Nayak is a Product Designer by Profession and heads the APEX Center for Social Innovation at Sahyadri. He has played a key role in the development of products like DreamKit, an electronic prototyping kit and Innovators Initiative, a game based learning platform to develop 21st century skills in younger kids.
Mr. Gautham Nayak explained about the usage of MIRO tool in Brainstorming. He then divided the participants into eight teams using ‘Breakout Rooms’ option in Zoom Meeting and each team practiced Brainstorming using MIRO board.
Dr. Srinath M S, Professor and Head, Dept. of Industrial & Production Engineering, Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan
The last session of the day was by Dr. Srinath M S, Professor and Head, Dept. of Industrial & Production Engineering, Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan on the topic - “Blended Learning”. He is a B. E, M.Tech and Ph.D with 26 plus years of Experience in Teaching, Industry, Research and Administration. He is a recipient of Young Scientist for Research (under SMYSR) award for the year 2012-2013 from Vision Group on Science & Technology, Department of IT, BT and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka.
Dr. Srinath M S shared insights on various online and offline learning platforms available for Blended learning. He also discussed about the importance and applications of ICT initiatives and tools.
