Industry Visit by Pre-Final year students of CSE (AI&ML) Dept.

Dept. of CSE (AI&ML) organized an industrial visit from 22nd May 2025 to 24th May 2025. A total of 82 students from 6th semester CSE (AI&ML) department visited various reputed Industries in Hosur and Coimbatore in different sessions.
Gabriel India Limited:
During the visit, company representatives Mr. Sathish from HR Department and Mr. L N Rao, Head Manufacturing gave a detailed overview of Gabriel’s journey, milestones, and steady progress in automotive component manufacturing. The students learned about the company’s commitment to innovation, quality control, and advancements in suspension system technology. During this interactive session students could get information about various policies, protocols and procedures of IT company.
Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt. Ltd., Jigani:
The students interacted with Mr. Santhosh Madhyastha, Senior Executive Officer, Industrial Relations and Mr. Santhosh Rao K, Associate Vice President, Human Resource and Administration. Post the session, students were given hands-on training on safety precautions by Mr. Ganesh Kini. A notable part of the visit was the Unnati Centre, a dedicated training facility for employee skill development and discipline Sahyadri was the first team to get an opportunity to visit the TiE India from the date of its establishment.
TVS Motors Plant, Hosur:
The visit provided an overview of the manufacturing and assembly processes involved in producing three-wheelers. Students observed the workflow, machinery, and quality control practices followed at the plant, gaining valuable industrial exposure.

Code Bind Technologies:
The team at Code Bind conducted an informative session explaining the core concepts of machine learning and its real-world applications. This session helped students understand how machine learning is applied across various industries.
S & T Workshop Coimbatore:
Students explored the operational mechanisms of railway signalling and telecommunication systems, gaining exposure to safety-critical infrastructure and its significance in transportation.
Radio Astronomy Centre:
During the visit students learned about the fundamentals of radio astronomy, the functioning of radio telescopes, and the role of technology in space research. The visit sparked curiosity among students regarding space science and advanced scientific exploration.
The students also visited the Doddabetta Tea and Chocolate Factory, where they were introduced to the process of tea production—from withering and rolling to drying and packaging. This visit provided a unique perspective on industrial operations in the food sector and the machinery involved in tea Manufacturing. The students were accompanied by Prof. Ganaraj K, Prof. Shreekshitha, Prof. Deeksha and Ms. Teesha Dept. of CSE (AI&ML).

Day 9 – 3D Modeling Competition Sparks Innovation and Design Excellence

Day 9 of UTKhanan 4.0 – 2025 featured a stimulating 3D Modeling Competition, with 15 enthusiastic teams showcasing their creativity and technical skills. Participants crafted innovative 3D models using digital tools, focusing on precision, functionality, and visual appeal. The competition encouraged design thinking, problem-solving, and application of core engineering concepts in a dynamic format. It stood out as a brilliant blend of technology and imagination, adding a modern, inventive edge to the overall fest.

Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Centre of Excellence was invited by the GIBS business school to be panellist at the IRE conference 2025 on Innovation, Research and Entrepreneurship.
Dr. Prabhu in his interaction mentioned about the following points:
1. IP Moats & Deep IP Stack: Intellectual property (patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets) forms a defensive barrier; countries like China and the US lead in patent filings.
2. Incubation Ecosystem: Spin-outs from academia (e.g., Meta, Dropbox) and spin-ins where industry adopts academic innovations create fertile ground for deep-tech startups.
3. Problem-First Thinking: Focus on identifying core problems rather than just addressing symptoms—challenge assumptions and delay jumping to solutions.
4. Interdisciplinary Research: Encouraging dual specializations (major-minor) fosters innovation by blending diverse academic strengths.
5. Deep-Tech for National Needs: Startups should focus on AI, biotech, space, clean energy, water, and healthcare—addressing India's pressing problems with frontier tech.
6. MVPs & Innovation Platforms: Use innovation sandboxes for early testing; platforms like Kickstarter and Appsumo help validate ideas and raise capital.
7. Industry-Academia Collaboration: Academia offers IP, industry offers market access—this partnership accelerates productization and commercialization.
8. Bridging the Valley of Death: Portals like indiascienceandtechnology.gov.in can help startups cross the funding gap between prototype and market readiness.
9. Mentorship & Tech Maturity: Platforms like MentorCruise and Clarity.fm offer access to domain-specific advisors to guide startups from TRL 1 to TRL 9.
10. Moonshot vs Stretch Innovation: Go beyond incremental ideas; emulate projects like Aadhaar and Mangalyaan to aim for bold, transformative impact.
11. Fail-Fast Models & Tools: Use Lean Startup principles, rapid prototyping tools (Figma, TinkerCAD), and Agile practices to quickly test and improve products.
12. Data & Compute Access: Tap into free/open datasets (Kaggle, India’s Open Data) and scalable cloud compute (AWS, Colab) for development and testing.
13. Innovation Funnel & Design Thinking: Use the funnel model and design thinking (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test) to refine research into real-world solutions.
14. Storytelling for Investors: Investors invest in vision—founders must learn to pitch their research-backed ideas as compelling, market-ready narratives.
15. Bold Vision for Bharat: Move from jugaad to generational innovation—solve for the 99%, turn labs into unicorn factories, export breakthroughs, and replace Shark Tanks with Scholar Tanks.
He was later felicitated by former Indian cricketer Syed Kirmani, MD of GIBS Ritesh Goyal and Revathi Kamath, environmentalist and mother of Zerodha founders-Nikhil and Nithin Kamath. Dr. Prabhu expressed his gratitude to Prof. Guruprasad Rao and team, for flawlessly organizing this one of its kind conferences.

ECE Research Scholar Successfully Defends Ph.D. Thesis

Ms. Roopashree Nayak, research scholar at the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), has successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis submitted to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.
Her doctoral research, titled “Development of Computer-Aided Decision Support System for Detection & Classification of Leukemia,” presents a significant contribution to the healthcare technology domain. The study focuses on developing advanced computational methods for the early and accurate diagnosis of leukemia, enhancing decision-making in medical applications.
Ms. Roopashree Nayak completed her Ph.D. under the guidance of Dr. Anush Bekal, and her accomplishment marks a proud milestone for the department

The session was attended by Dr. Sudheer Shetty, Vice Principal, faculty members, and fellow research scholars. Dr. Manjappa Sarathi, Director-Research, and Principal Dr. S S Injaganeri, joined the session virtually and congratulated the scholar on her accomplishment. This marks a proud moment for the department as Dr. Roopashree Nayak becomes the first Ph.D. graduate in ECE under the guidance of Dr. Anush Bekal.

CSE Faculty participated in FDP on AI Agents organized by EXCELR

Dr. Poornima B V., Department of Computer Science & Engineering, participated in a 5-day International Faculty Development Program on “AI Agents”, organized by the Commissionerate of Collegiate Education (CCE), Government of Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with ExcelR Edtech Pvt. Ltd. The FDP, conducted in online mode from May 12 to May 16, focused on cutting-edge technologies in Artificial Intelligence, with sessions held for 2 hours each day.
