Orientation Program of ISE Dept.

Day Two:

Session 1: The Academic Projects and Research Orientation Program was conducted by Prof. Vasudeva Rao P V, Dept. of (ISE) and Asst. Dean-IQAC. Students were introduced to the significance of academic projects and research in their educational and professional journey. The session emphasized the importance of contributing to the academic community through meaningful research. Topics covered included defining project goals, creating timelines, and identifying and managing project resources.

Session 2: This session was handled by Prof. Prajna U R and Prof. Ashritha K P, Dept. of ISE about the placement opportunities and preparation. She shared the placement statistics 2023-24, highest company offers and details of companies visited. She also explained the interview preparation for the placements and different rounds of test in placement recruitment process. In this session, selects of the companies like Cohesity, Novigo Solution, Semnox interacted with students.

Session 3: This session was handled by Prof. Shwetha Bharath, NMAMIT, Nitte University, Karkala. She educated the students about the communication skills required. She also spoke about attitude and behaviour. She conducted activities on building confidence.

Session 4: This session was handled by Prof. Masooda from the ISE Dept. on Internship and Industrial visits. She explained the importance of engineering internships, highlighting three distinct stages. The session was emphasized on the diverse advantages of pursuing internships prior to formal employment, elucidating the valuable experiences gained during this period.

Session 5: This session was handled by Prof. Shwetha S Shetty, Dept. of ISE. She educated students regarding mentor-mentee program and utilization of mentor’s expertise for academic purposes. She also explained about the importance of MOOC courses and NPTEL courses for skill development in addition to the awareness on the major and minor degrees.

Session 6: This session was handled by Prof. Harinakshi C, Dept. of ISE about AICTE student activity. She explained how this program helps the students to strengthen their soft skills, leadership qualities, and team spirit.

Session 7: This session was handled by Dr. Sudheer Shetty, Vice Principal, Prof of Dept of ISE. He gave the general rules and regulations of the institution and also shared the importance of academics. He spoke on the importance of health and also gave the general awareness regarding the cybercrime.

Dr Prabhu interacts with the officers of IOC Gujarat

Dr. Ananth Prabhu G, Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Digital Forensics and Cyber Security Centre of Excellence was invited by the Indian Oil Corporation, Ahmedabad to interact with their officers of various ranks on New Generation Cyber Crimes.
CGM-Vigilance Sri. Atanu Mandal felicitated Dr Prabhu after his 2-hour interaction which was followed by an exhaustive round of Q and A. CGM Dr. Jadeja, DGM Sudipta Saha and others were present.

CSE Faculty published a paper in Springer Q2 Journal

A research paper titled “CNN-BO-LSTM: an ensemble framework for prognosis of liver cancer” co-authored and published by Dr. Suhas A Bhyratae, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering is published in International Journal of of Information Technology (Q2 Journal) (https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s41870-024-02190-5#citeas).
The study highlights the global preference for Computer-Assisted Diagnosis (CAD) in cancer detection,

which relies on computerized image processing. Previous CAD systems used semi-automated approaches with traditional deep learning techniques but struggled with accuracy. This manuscript introduces a new architecture, CNN-BO-LSTM, which combines a convolutional neural network (CNN) optimized with Bayesian techniques and long short-term memory (LSTM) for liver cancer identification. MRI scans undergo early pre-processing to enhance clarity, followed by dynamic binary classification to accurately extract regions of interest (ROI). CNN automatically retrieves features from the ROI, and LSTM classifies the images as benign or malignant. The proposed method outperforms current state-of-the-art techniques in testing, delivering superior results in cancer diagnosis.
