FLAMES - Student Association Inaugurated
FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students) a student association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the academic year 2019-20 was inaugurated by the Alumni Guest Mr. Varshith K.N, currently working for Anglo Eastern Ship Management.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Varshith K.N stressed on the importance of basic knowledge about various technical subjects to enhance the academic performance. He also gave overview on preparation to be done in order to get better offers from various Mechanical industries. Further, he gave brief exposure about the role of mechanical engineer in the marine industries, importance of the discipline, necessary skills involved in technical and time management. Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal spoke encouragingly on the endeavours of the department and wished the association a successful year ahead. He also expressed his whole-hearted support towards the working of the association. Prof. Ravichandra K.R., President of FLAMES and Head of the Department gave introductory remarks. Mr. Sunder, CEO, Caliper Engineering and Lab Pvt Ltd also graced the function.
FLAMES - Student Association Inaugurated
FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students) a student association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the academic year 2018-19 was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Pavithran Alokkan, President and Head - Shipyard, Bharathi Defence & Infrastructure Ltd Mangaluru.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pavitran stressed on the importance of Mechanical Engineering and advised the students to be disciplined in their approach. He also called on students to inculcate a sense of time management to be a successful engineer. Further, he also spoke on the importance of academics and asked students to harness necessary skills by undergoing internships. He also appreciated Sahyadri for raising the state-of-the-art infrastructure that includes an in-house production industry ‘Caliper’.
The event also saw the presence of Sahyadri alumni – Mr. Abhijith Karkera (2013 batch); Sandesh Achar (2016 batch) and Mr. Bhavik Das (2017 batch). Prof. S S Balakrishna, Vice-Principal spoke encouragingly on the endeavours of the department and wished the association a successful year ahead. He also expressed his whole hearted support towards the working of the association. Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri, President of FLAMES & HOD of the Department, gave introductory remarks. Mr. Devdas Hegde, Trustee-Bhandary Foundation; Mr. Ravichandra Rangappa, Dean-Industry Connect; Mr. Sunder, CEO, Calipers Engineering & Lab Pvt Ltd also graced the function.
During this occasion, the academic achievers were felicitated by the Chief Guest which was followed by a Cultural Programme.

Speaking on the occasion Prof. Bhat dwelt on the importance of Mechanical Engineering and further advised the students to use their potential to the full extent. He also appreciated the idea of forming an association within department and suggested about the implications as well as benefits that the association could have on the students and participants. Prof S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal addressed and congratulated the gathering. He also expressed his whole hearted support towards the working of the association. Prof. Mahesh B. Davanageri, President of FLAMES & HOD of the Department, gave introductory remarks. Dr. J V Gorabal, Dean Academics, spoke encouragingly on the endeavours of the department and wished the association a successful year ahead.

FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students), student association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the academic year 2016 - 17 was inaugurated by Mr. Chidanand Kubihalmath, CEO & MD, Samruddhi Group of Companies. He gave a presentation to regarding Importance of communication for career growth, Capabilities for self growth, Opportunities in industries, Industrial requirements to recruit fresher's, Technical skills, Soft skills & Training, Product Design & Development, Internship Opportunities and his Professional Experience.
Mr. Pradeep, final year student of M.Tech was felicitated for his excellence in project work on design and fabrication of low head turbine. Student executive committee members, Mr. Vaishak R (Vice-President) welcomed the gathering; Ms. Joelene gave an overview of the annual activities of FLAMES of previous year. Mr. Bhavik Das organized the event under the guidance of Mr. Kiran Parkasha A, Assistant Professor, and Faculty Advisor of FLAMES YR 2016-17.
Mr. S. S. Balakrishna, Vice-Principal, presided over the function. Prof. Mahesh B Davanageri, President of FLAMES & HOD of the Department, gave introductory remarks. FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students), student association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering for the academic year 2015-16 was inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Kulkarni, GM, Special Projects & Training, MCF, Mangaluru. He spoke on the insights and importance of mechanical engineering in day-to-day life. Student Executive Committee member Mr. Navaneeth welcomed the gathering and Mr. Akshay Bhandary gave an overview about the activities of the association conducted during the academic year 2014-15. Mr. Larry Denzil, Student Executive Committee member introduced the new Office bearers and welcomed them.
Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, Professor S. S. Balakrishna, President of the Association and HoD of the Department, Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal, Prof. Umashankar B. S., Dean-Academics and SWOs were present on the occasion. Everyone appreciated the models of various mechanical components prepared and decorated by the students. The achievers were felicitated by the Chief Guest and after the formal function the students showcased their talents through a cultural program.
Flames Valedictory and Farewell for Outgoing Students
The Valedictory function of FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students); the student association of the Department of Mechanical Association and a farewell for the outgoing students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was held in the Campus.
Dr. Antony A. J., Vice-Principal the Guest of Honor, wished all the outgoing students a bright future. Prof. S. S. Balakrishna, Head of the Department in his presidential address, appreciated the students for their hard work in academics as well as extra-curricular activities.
On this occasion outgoing students shared their experience of their years spent in Sahyadri. The achievers in academics and extra-curricular activities were felicitated. Ms. Ramya, Student Co-ordinator gave a report of the activities of FLAMES for the year 2014-15. After the formal function a cultural program with games entertained the gathering.
FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students), an Association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Students for the academic year 2013-14 was inaugurated by Mr. Arun More, Deputy Manager, Placement & Training, The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd. The student academic representative of FLAMES, Mr. Siddharth S. gave an overview of the activities of the Association planned for the academic year. Mr. Arun More, the Chief Guest, delivered a talk on “Opportunities in the Merchant Navy.” Speaking on the occasion Mr. More briefed about the opportunities available for Mechanical Engineering in Merchant Navy. He elaborately discussed about the challenges and rewards of the profession and gave information about the courses which are mandatory for joining Merchant Navy. He appreciated the excellent infrastructure of the college and expressed his support for the students to find a career in Merchant Navy.
Mr. Tim Rebello, who is undergoing training at The Great Eastern Shipping Co. Ltd., shared his experience in Merchant Navy and interacted with Mechanical Engineering Students.
Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, presided over the function and delivered the presidential address. Professor S. S. Balakrishna, President of the Association and HoD of the Department welcomed the gathering and briefed about various courses offered by the department. Mr. Rakshith Shetty, Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, administered the oath to the new members and welcomed them. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean-Academics, Cdr. M. N. Nayak, Administrator and Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice Principal, were present on the occasion.
The models such as the Train, Ship, and the Rocket prepared and decorated by the students were appreciated by everyone. The achievers were felicitated by the Chief Guest and the students showcased their talents through a cultural program.

The Association of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, FLAMES (Fulfilling Aspirations of Mechanical Engineering Students) was formally inaugurated by Mr. Nerenki Parshwanath, Sr. GM, Service & Spares, Mandovi Motors Pvt. Ltd. Mangalore. He officially declared the Association open. The meritorious students were awarded with a certificate by the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest, in his inaugural address, gave a glimpse of the automobile world and the various opportunities available in the market. He provided the audience with statistical data on the standing of various automobile companies in India. He also invited the students for a training session during their vacation at Mandovi Motors Pvt. Ltd.
Students displayed their creativity in the form of models of a car and a train. A quiz competition was also organized for the students after the formal function.

FLAMES, the Association of Mechanical Engineering Students and the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a One day State Level Technical Paper Presentation Competition on "Recent Advances in Mechanical Engineering".READ ME - 10 A State Level Technical Paper Presentation Competition for students was held under the aegis of FLAMES, an association of Mechanical Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on 6th March, 2010. Nearly 200 students to part in the programme. 48 papers were presented in 3 different themes. Students from all over the Karnataka i.e. from Bidar, Shimoga, Chickmagalur, R.V. College and other colleges from Bangalore, Tumkur, Haliyal etc., were present at Sahyadri campus to participate in this programme.Prof. Raghunandan - Chairman, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering, IISC Bangalore inaugurated the program. Prof. V.Ganesan - Professor of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras delivered the key note address. Dr. B. S Samaga - Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean Academic, NMAMIT, Nitte was the Chief guest during the valedictory programme.
