SAHYADRI LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2015

A two days leadership summit on “Managing Business during Uncertain Times - Unique Challenges and Smart Solutions” was organised by the Department of Business Administration in Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. The summit was inaugurated by Mr. Ananth Ravi, Senior Vice President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. In his inaugural address he said that the business environment was stable till 1990. Due to liberalization, rapid technological innovation, change in customer preference, uncertainty has become the order of the day. The gap between growth and recession is very narrow and it throws a lot of challenges in managing business. Mr. M.C. Dinesh, Vice President, FKCCI, in his key note address pointed out that there is a mismatch betweenacademia and industry and the skill gap existing needs to be narrowed down to cater to the needs of the 21st century knowledge

economy. Mr. Dinesh said that by 2020-25 India can become a three trillion dollar economy if we size up, scale up & speed up as a country with the largest skilled force.

Mr. Manjunath Bhandary Chairman of Bhandary Foundation in his Presidential remarks stressed that a leader must have confidence, commitment, dedication, accountability, responsibility to overcome the uncertainties in business. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management welcomed the gathering and Dr. A.P. Achar, Director, Department of Business Administration gave an overview about the Summit. The 1st session was on Managing business during uncertainty: unique challenges, smart solutions. The resource persons for the session were Mr. Srinivas H.N. General manager, Taj group Mumbai and Mr.Ramkumar seshu, Chairman, Skill, Education and HR committee, FKCCI. The session was chaired by Mr. Ananth Ravi Senior, Vice President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.

The afternoon session was on the topic Contextual leadership styles for sustaining and growth in volatile environment. The resource persons for the session were Mr. Augustus Azariya, Associate Director-HR, IBM, India, Dr. Jebin Manohar Director, HR and Talent Mangement Aptean Bengaluru and M. Jeba Kumar, Director HR& Legal Services/ Past Chairman NIPM

The first day of the summit ended with a cultural extravaganza with a number of performances from the students followed by a network dinner. The second day of the leadership summit started with a session on Knowledge management and Business analytics. The session was chaired by Dr. Bagali, Professor, Jain University and the resource person for the session was Mr.N.M.Sharma, Vice president-Analytics, TCS, Bangalore.

Dr. Bagali, Professor, Jain University laid the theme of the session and background of the topic. Mr .N.M. Sharma emphasized that data is fundamental for analytics. He spoke on the marketing analytics, Finance analytics and the HR analytics. He spoke on the virtual mirror which will be seen in the near future. He stressed on the heights of analytics and how the data is processed multi dimensionally. The next session was on Imperatives of Talent management. The session was chaired by Mr. VRV Sriprasad, Managing Director, Volvo Buses, India and the resource person for the session was Mr. M. Jeba Kumar, Director HR and Legal services and past chairman of NIPM. Mr.VRV Sriprasad stressed that in the future there will be a war for talents. Countries have not focused on developing the talents. He said that an average Indian is far ahead of all in terms of intellect. He said that the traditional Indian gurukul system nurtured talents but the present educational system is just blindly following and not focusing on developing talents. Mr.Jeba Kumar stated that once a talent is not always a talent because we live in a changing world. Change is making so much of an impact that there needs to be learning at every step. The second day leadership summit concluded with a valedictory address by Mr. VRV Sriprasad, Managing Director, Volvo Buses, India and a speech by Mr.Srinath Birur, Co Chairman Skill, Education and HR committee, FKCCI and Dr. Umesh M Bhushi, Principal Shyadri Collegeof Engineering & Management. Dr. Manjunath Bhandary gave the presidential remarks.
