OVERVIEW OF CIVIL ENGINEERING
The Department of Civil Engineering has been functioning since 2009. The Department offers a full time B.E degree course in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering Department is a professionally run Department with a different focus on education, primarily emphasizing through grooming research acumen and also to develop entrepreneurs to contribute to society at large rather than mere technocrats. Apart from conducting academic programs, additional Industry Connected Courses, Internships, Computer Courses, seminars and workshops are conducted for the students as well as the faculty. A number of consultancy works are also being carried out. The Department was under the affiliation to Visvesvaraya Technological University. The present student intake of the Department is 120. The Department has well experienced faculty. The students from different parts of the country are studying in the branch.

Programme Educational Objectives(PEO):
PEO1: Become capable of applying technical & managerial skills and succeed as professional engineers to address socio-environment oriented problems in the field of Civil Engineering.

PO1:Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

SAHYADRI INITIATIVES
BRIDGE COURSE
A bridge course for newly admitted students was conducted every year before the commencement of the first semester classes. The main objective of the course is to bridge the gap between subjects studied at Pre-university level and subjects they would be studying in engineering. The syllabus for the course is framed in such a way that equal importance is given to both Engineering discipline and personality development which includes soft skills, sports and cultural Activities.
The duration of this course is 18 days with 100 hrs. The students are trained in subjects such as Mathematics, Computer Science and English apart from other co-curricular activities. Syllabus for Mathematics includes concepts learnt at the PU level and also additional concepts which are essential prerequisites for engineering course. Orientation to Computers is aimed at familiarizing the fundamentals of programming languages and thereby enabling them to write basic codes in C language which is a part of I year curriculum for all branches. The module on English is aimed at making the students better articulate in English thereby increasing their comprehension level and self confidence. The sessions post lunch will be usually on Soft Skills, Sports and cultural activities.
APTITUDE TRAINING
The Aptitude is part of the regular curriculum. Every week students spend time in the state of the art aptitude labs to improve their skills. These sessions are monitored by the placement faculties to ensure students practice regularly like any other subject. 2hrs per week for Second year Students and 4hrs per week for the third year students are exclusively allotted in the timetable of the program. The tools aiding aptitude training include:
- • Oliveboard: It is the most comprehensive online preparation portal for Campus Recruitment, Banking and Government exams. Students can explore a range of mock tests and study material. It is selected as one of the top education startups of India by Pearson. Currently Deployed in 3 of top 10 Karnataka colleges. It is the batch of Google's 10000 Startups Shortlist. Students have access right from their 2nd year to prepare for their placements anytime they want, anywhere.
- • 10 seconds: They offer the most comprehensive training programs to cater industries requirements. They deliver through its huge resource pool of trainers/consultants with vast experience in real time as well as corporate training on the skill sets ranging from Information Technology, Technical Skills, Aptitude Skills, and Soft Skills & Interview Skills. They conduct various workshops short term and long terms to enhance the skill sets.
- • Aptimithra by Ethnus: Ethnus has carved a niche for itself by focusing on mentoring and consulting at the grass root levels; be it students, colleges or even training programs. Aptimithra provides immediate and practical support carefully aligned to the area of study and current level of expertise, It is designed to prepare for Aptitude Tests in the most efficient and effective manner. The book includes over 2500 questions across 35 plus topics in quantitative, verbal and logical reasoning.
HANDS ON EXPERIENCE LAB
In order to bridge the gap between theory and practice, Sahyadri College has initiated a lab which aims at enhancing the analytical skills and practical knowledge of budding engineers. The lab motivates students to carry out innovations at a primary level thereby promoting the reasoning skills amongst them. The students shall conduct experiments pertaining to different branches of engineering and shall be based on the machines that we use on a daily basis. The students will conduct experiments pertaining to various branches of engineering, established on the work supervised on a daily basis. Realizing the lack-of knowledge in general appliances due to ignorance, this scheme in the form of a lab is created in the Sahyadri Campus. Hands-on Experience Lab is built on the lines of “Make in India” concept where students are encouraged to pursue their ideas and innovate continuously. In order to bridge the gap between theory and technology, the college has initiated this lab. It is a full-fledged 24X7 technical workspace.
VALUE ADDED COURSES
During the time of recruitment most of the leading companies look for technically sound candidates and preference is given to skillful team player who is equipped with different technical skill sets required by the company which cannot be facilitated through the regular curriculum. To prepare the students according to needs of industry and to enhance the placement opportunities various value added training sessions were introduced for the students of 2nd and 3rd year.
Four Courses were designed under the guidance of senior faculties and Industry Personnel and the same were delivered to the students. The courses included, Introduction to Urban Geo-Informatics & Engineering: Building with Nature for students of second year Civil Engineering and Introduction to Data Analysis using Excel & Microsoft Office Fundamentals for third year students of Civil Engineering.
SOCIAL INNOVATION PROJECT (SIP)
Social innovations are new strategies, concepts and ideas that meet the different social needs of the society ranging from living conditions, education employment to community development and to strengthen and serve the society. It includes the social processes of innovation, such as methods, techniques, inventions and innovations which have a social purpose.
Social innovation is about creating new social structures that allow several issues of education, environmental protection, sustainability and community development to be reframed and redefined so that new solutions can be found out. It is more about applying academic knowledge for creating new products or services to address social or environmental needs. Social innovation and entrepreneurship may work through a variety of organizational architectures to enable change. Social innovation is about creating pathways for students in academics to lead a positive change in our world. Sahyadri Center for Social innovation (SCSI) was founded on the principles of enabling change through social engineering. It was inaugurated by Padmashri Dr. Prahlada Rama Rao, Former Vice Chancellor of Defence Institute of Advanced Technology and Former Director of Defence Research and Development Laboratory.
SAHYADRI PROJECT SUPPORT SCHEME (SPSS)
SPSS is mainly initiated to impart project based learning from Day one of Engineering. This scheme is driven by the concept of Project to Product on completion of engineering course, with funding support from the college management. Nearly 500-600 Projects under this scheme are being done by our students.
SAHYADRI SCIENCE TALENT HUNT (SSTH)
Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt is an annual gathering in which eminent national and international scientists provide a platform for free interaction to young students and teachers in order to showcase the excitement of scientific works and investigations which will in turn motivate them to take up the study of science as their career. This is a platform for students to exhibit their skills and knowledge in the form of science projects. It serves as a channel to interact, network and connect with other brilliant minds in the community as well as some of the well known research scientists of the nation. The main objective of this program is to provide a platform for exhibiting new ideas and the creative work of young talent of PU colleges, creating curiosity towards science and latest technologies along with exchange of views and ideas with their peer group. SSTH provides a platform to exhibit talents of budding young scientists, a panel for discussion on various topics of science, lectures presented by the scientists, question and answer sessions relating to basic science and application oriented themes. This program contributes to the generation of new ideas, encourages personal contacts, inspires scientific activities and enables the critical examination of scientific questions from a different perspective. A style of free environment for learning is adopted, whereby both formal and informal interactions take place to create interests, counsel and direction towards science education to young minds. The interaction sessions also involve laboratory work and scientific project demonstrations.

A startup initiated with an intention to bring out creativity and innovation in every individual and transform the nation into a place where true purpose of education is served. Dreamers are a conglomeration of enthusiastic engineers aiming to bring technology and innovation closer which can serve humanity and make earth a better place for living. DREAMERS dream of creating a place where every interested individual can interact with team members and work in an atmosphere where they can provide wings to their dream and let it fly higher and reach the zenith.
CHALLENGERS
The Challengers team is a competitive club that competes in various national and international level competitions. The team is run by students, which creates a dynamic group and enables students to gain experience in technical skills. The broad range of experiences and intensity of life as Challengers help members to understand their full potential as engineers. By looking beyond our hilltop to the rest of the world, we are encouraged to work consciously towards the greatest dream we can envision.
INDUSTRY CONNECT COURSES
To bridge the gap between the academic and industry need, industry oriented learning are conducted regularly. These courses help the students to learn beyond their curriculum getting deeper understanding of the actual industry skill requirements. Taking up these courses, our students are able to enhance their core engineering competencies.
In this academic year the earlier version of VAC was reframed as Industry Connect Course in which ACT CAD and STAAD Pro courses were provided for the students of Third Semester & Fifth Semester respectively and Development of Design Sheets using Excel and Application of Visual Basic in Civil Engineering for Fourth and Sixth Semester students of Civil Engineering. The syllabus for the same was prepared under the guidance of senior faculties and Industry Personnel and was later delivered to the students.
DTILABZ Pvt. Ltd
Started in the year 2016, DTILABZ endeavors to develop progressive technological solutions for the betterment of humanity. By promoting research culture, share knowledge and provide opportunities to innovate, we hope to empower budding talents to explore their true potentials and contribute to the society. The goal is to design and develop electronic hardware products, help and provide continuous support from initial design concepts, through the prototype and pre-production stages, right up to and including product launch and manufacture.
FOUNDATION COURSES
Foundation course for the new batch of engineering students will be organized every year on “Fundamentals to Learning in Engineering Sciences”. The course is focused on building a strong foundation for the students in basic sciences like mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering and other related subjects. The foundation course will be facilitated by the in-house faculty and resource persons from industry.
The objectives of the foundation course are to make the students to
- • Enjoy mathematics and programming and develop patience and persistence when solving problems
- • Understand and be able to use the language, symbols and notation of mathematics and programming.
- • Develop mathematical and logical curiosity and use inductive and deductive reasoning when solving problems
- • Become confident in using mathematics to analyze and solve problems both in curriculum and in real-life situations
- • About how to use ideation techniques to come up with solutions to problems.
PEER TO PEER LEARNING
In order to improve the student learning process and self-esteem cooperative and peer to peer learning process is practiced. The process involves more and more student’s involvement, where they are required to design various tasks and involve their peers to take up those task thereby improving positive relationship and wider friends circle.
Guidelines of peer to peer learning process:
- 1. Class Representative (CR) will be in charge of taking attendance of the students during respective hours.
- 2. Faculty members will identify a team of four students (Called peer team) in their subject. They will engage the class.
- 3. He/she should elect a topic (from syllabus) for which they must give a presentation during the respective hours.
- 4. The end of each class, a small quiz about five questions will be conducted as a test, which will be evaluated by the peer team itself at later stage. The peer team has to submit consolidated report of the test to respective faculty member.
- 5. Faculty member will discuss result of Quiz in the subsequent classes and clarify the doubts.
MENTOR MENTEE SYSTEM
One faculty counselor is assigned for a batch of 20-24 students. Each counselor interacts with same batch of students during their entire period of study. Students are required to meet the counselors’ on regular basis during each semester. The students are also encouraged to involve in Research and Development activities of the program as well as in interdisciplinary projects at college level. They are also motivated to publish technical papers in reputed journals/seminars/symposiums.

Research Design Lab - continues to maintain product excellence and performance by introducing innovative cost effective solutions to cater the needs of industry and students who dream to innovate and excel in the field of Electronics and Engineering- thus supporting an array of domains in real time, providing solutions you can count on.
FLOTANOMERS RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PVT. LTD.-AN AEROSPACE COMPANY.
The company provides aerial solutions for industrial, environmental and agricultural sectors. The products are custom designed and tested in all possible conditions. This venture was started in order to make innovative ideas to products and the knowledge into services. Flotanomers provide a wide range of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Micro UAV, Commercial Drones, Fixed Wing Drones, Industrial Drones and also offer Aerial Solutions for industrial, environmental and agricultural sectors. The drones are custom designed and tested in all possible conditions.
NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)UNIT
The overall aim of National Service Scheme as envisaged earlier, is to give an extension dimension to the higher education system and orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in educational institution. The educated youth who are expected to take the reins of administration in future are found to be unaware of the problems of the village/slum community and in certain cases are indifferent towards their needs and problems. Therefore, it is necessary to arouse the social conscience of the students, and to provide them an opportunity to work with the people in the villages and slums. It is felt that their interaction with the common villagers and slum dwellers will expose them to the realities of life and bring about a change in their social perception. Keeping this in mind, to inculcate social consciousness and create a positive civic sense among our students, Sahyadri College has established an NSS Unit.
AEROPHILIA
Aerophilia is a 2-Day National Level Aeromodelling Event with more than 20 events and huge cash prizes, Organized by Team Challengers, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. Aerophilia has given wings to innovative thinking to aeromodelling enthusiasts, thereby igniting the passion door, the future of Aeronautics in India. The motive behind organizing such a competition is to spread and teach the young talented minds to explore new era of aeronautics to foster development of the nation. It is a two days national level competition held at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Mangalore.
PROGRAMMING CELL:
Programming cell is a body having all India character, dedicated to the welfare of the students of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management. The body will be responsible for execution of technical training for the students across III to VI semester to enhance their technical aptitude and to ensure that they make a good stand in the campus drive to be faced during their final year.

SPACE - 2015
The Valedictory function of SPACE (Sahyadri Pupil Association of Civil Engineering); the student association of the Department of Civil and a farewell for the outgoing students of the civil engineering department was held in the Campus. Prof. Umesh S. S., Head of the Department and the Guest of Honour of the function, addressed the outgoing students about life after graduation and wished them well for the future. Prof. Purushotham C.T., Department of Civil Engineering, gave an analogy about civil engineering and on how an engineer analyzes and designs the structures. He also spoke about work ethics to the students. Ms. Rashmishree K. N., Student Co-ordinator gave a report of the activities of SPACE for the year 2014-15. The achievers in academic, sports and cultural were felicitated with achievement awards and a group of eleven students were specially awarded for their excellent involvement in the various departmental events. The students shared their memorable experience of their four years spent in Sahyadri, the Survey Camp they attended, about the class and the fun moments that they shared with each other.

SPACE (Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering) held its Valedictory and Farewell for the Second batch of outgoing students of the Department. Dr. Mohandas Bhat, Dean Academics, the Chief Guest, advised the students to become role models for the future revolution in civil engineering.
Dr. A. J. Antony, Vice-Principal, in his presidential address, said that the students should create joyful environment in future work and enjoy every experience of life and also wished them a bright future. Dr. H. M. Rajashekara Swamy, Professor and Head of the Department and President of SPACE, extended his good wishes to the outgoing students and suggested students to keep positive mind in every difficulties. On this occasion, outgoing students shared their experiences being in Sahyadri. The achievers of academic and extra-curricular activities were felicitated. Mr. Ashraf K., SPACE Staff Adviser, provided a report of the activities of the year 2013 -14. A cultural program and games entertained the gathering after the formal function.
SPACE - 2013
SPACE (Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering) was inaugurated by Dr. Radhakrishnan, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, NMAMIT, Nitte. The new office bearers for the academic year 2013-14 were elected. The staff coordinator, Mr. C. Prasanna Kumar gave an overview of the activities of the Association planned for the academic year.
Dr. Radhakrishnan, the Chief Guest, delivered a technical talk on “GIS and Remote Sensing.” He spoke about the importance of GIS and Remote Sensing in advanced surveying. He stressed on the importance of GIS in daily life and geomatic application in the field of Civil Engineering.
Dr. U. M. Bhushi, Principal, gave motivational guidelines to the students and wished them the best in the coming events to be conducted by SPACE. The HoD’s of various departments were present on the occasion.
Meritorious students, sports and cultural achievers, and VTU toppers were honoured with a certificate and a gift voucher by the Chief Guest. The students showcased their talents through a cultural program.

SPACE - 2011
The Inauguration of "SPACE- Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering" was held on Tuesday 9th August 2011 at 10.30 a.m. Mr. N.R. Premananda Shenoy, Head & Consultant, Roy & Shenoy Group was the chief guest. He delivered a technical talk on Scope of civil engineering and Role of civil engineers in nation building. He also spoke about the theory and practice in civil engineering and career prospectus for upcoming civil engineers. The old office bearers of SPACE handed over their charges to the new office bearers.
Dr.U.M.Bhushi, Principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management presided over the function. He wished the SPACE and asked the students to strive for a better future. This formal function was followed by the cultural events performed by the students of SPACE.
SPACE - 2010
Department of Civil Engineering organized the celebration of Engineers day and inauguration of SPACE, Sahyadri Pupils Association of Civil Engineering on 15th September 2010.
Dr. K.S. Babunarayan, Prof. NITK Surathkal inaugurated the function. In his inaugural address he glorified the life and achievement of sir M. Vishweshwarayya He opined that Vishweawarayya proved that the prosperity and growth of a village depends upon the growth and development of technology. Dr. D.L Prabhakara, Principal Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management presided over the function. In his presidential address he lauded on the values and life of Vishweawarayya. He called upon the students to have such a role model in their life. Miss Sasha Rai of third semester gave a panoramic picture of life and achievement of Vishweshwarayya.
Space, the association of Civil Engineering is one of the active associations of the college. Dr. K.S Babunarayan, who inaugurated the association spoke about the importance of association for the overall development of the students and asked students to take active part in all its activities. The office bearers for the academic year 2010-11 were recognized with a flower. Mr. Joyson Cutinha is the Vice president and Miss Sindhu S is the secretary for the year. The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Mr. Purushotham C.T, HOD of the department and the President of association. Mr. Sunil Kumar Rai, Staff co-ordinator read out the annual report and presented a preview of future plans of association.

Civil Engineering Students of Fourth Semester visit Bridge cum Salt Water Exclusion Dam Construction Site on 11/03/2021 |
Students of Fourth Semester Civil Engineering visited Bridge cum Salt Water Exclusion Dam Construction Site at Harekala and interacted with the site engineers. The students were briefed regarding the site plan of the project, Geotechnical challenges involved in the execution of project, Foundation Details, RC Detailing and Dam component design specifications employed for the project. Recently, the Dept. of Civil Engineering was awarded to offer Project Management Consultancy for the same by the Dept. of Minor Irrigation, Dakshina Kannada District. Students were accompanied by the Faculty Members of Civil Engineering Department. |
Industrial Visit for the IV semester Civil Engineering Students |
The students of IV semester Civil Engineering visited Varahi Hydroelectric Power Plant on 30th of April 2019. Students had an opportunity to look through the Power plant consisting of 4 x 115 MW Generating Units at Varahi underground Power house. Various stages involved in the power production processes and relevant sectors in the power house were explained by the in house engineers to the students. Students later visited a hydroelectric dam, called Mani Dam in Manibail village across the Varahi river. Power generation here takes place underground built by KPCL which uses water from this river near Hosangadi in Udupi district. The dam is near Yadur near Masthikatte, Shimoga District. Many villages got surrounded by water of this dam. The technical specifications of the dam were briefed by the engineers’ in charge of the dam subdivision. |
Industrial Visit for the VI Semester Civil Engineering Students on 28/03/2019 to 30/03/2019 |
An industrial visit was organized for the students of VI Semester Civil Engineering 28/03/2019 to 30/03/2019. Students along with four faculty members visited T K Halli Water Treatment Plant at Mandya. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) at T K Halli is the premier governmental agency responsible for sewage disposal and water supply to the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka Engineering Research Station (KERS), KRS Road, Mysore. KERS has diversified its research fields in irrigation structures, hydraulics, soil mechanics & foundation engineering, coastal engineering, and technical services. The students had a chance to visit the labs in the researchstation and interact with the officials based on various fields of research in civil engineering domain. Also visited Krishnarajasagara Dam, KLRS, Mysore. Here they had an opportunity to interact with the officials of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd., and gain information pertaining to the various operations of dam, its conveyance sections, technical details, dam maintenance etc. Students then visited Venugopalswamy Temple, a rehabilitated structure in the KRS backwaters and gathered information regarding rehabilitation process which is implied in the field of Civil Engineering. |

An industrial visit was organized for the students of VIII Semester Civil Engineering from 22.03.2019 to 25.03.2019 during which the students visited Matupetty Dam near Munnar in Idukki District, Kerala. It is a storage Concrete Gravity dam built in the mountains of Kerala, India to conserve water for hydroelectricity. Various stages involved in the power production processes and relevant sectors in the power house were explained by the in house engineers to the students. |
Final Year Civil Engineering Students Visited Flyover Construction Site on 13/02/2019 |
Students of VIII semester Civil Engineering visited a flyover construction site across Konkan Railways at Jokatte, Mangaluru 13/02/2019 which involves prestressed and precast construction carried out by Skycell Towers and Infrastructure Ltd., Mangaluru. Er. Arun Prabha, Proprietor & Consulting Engineer, Skycell Towers and Infrastructure Ltd., escorted the students and faculty members. Er. Arun Prabha highlighted about the various protocols followed in the construction of precast and prestressed fly over system and also explained in detail the various components and units involved in it. Er. Sathyaranjan Rao, Consulting Engineer, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, Mangaluru Chapter; Er. Shamshuddin and Er. Ranjith, Site Engineers, Skycell Towers and Infrastructure Ltd., accompanied the students and faculty members throughout the visit. Students interacted with the site engineers regarding various aspects of flyover construction. |
IV Semester Civil Engineering Students Visit RMC Plant on 13/08/2018 |
Students in the Fourth Semester of Civil Engineering visited Ready Mix Concrete Plant, PRISM RMC located in Baikampady Industrial Area, Mangaluru on 13.08.2018. PRISM RMC is one of the bulk manufacturers of Ready Mix concrete in Mangaluru. Mr. Chethan L. Pujara, Manager of Prism RMC addressed the students regarding the various aspects involved in RMC. Mr. Shivaprasad, Quality Control Engineer, accompanied the students and faculties, and explained about the know-how of RMC. Students were also taken around the plant and the laboratories and the different test on fresh and hardened state of concrete conducted were explained. |

The students of the final year civil engineering visited Bhandary Meridian, the construction site near Bejai, Mangalore and observed the reinforcement work being carried out at the project site as a part of their weekly internship program. Department of Civil Engineering has organized an internship program for final year students. The main objective of this program is to upgrade the knowledge of fresh engineering graduates as per industry requirements and help them to get better job opportunities. The students are exposed to the various site aspects in industry due to which they can be easily absorbed by the companies without much training. Students are made to visit and observe the various sites and the activities going around.

World Water Day observed at Sahyadri Campus |
Department of Civil Engineering in association with District Legal
Services Authority, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board observed the
World Water Day at Sahyadri Campus. The programme was inaugurated by
Sri. Mallanagouda, Senior Civil Judge & Member Secretary, District
Legal Service Authority, Dakshina Kannada. Prof. M. S. Mohan Kumar,
Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore
was the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony. Sri. Mallanagouda in his
address, stressed on the importance of conserving water for the future
generation. He emphasized on meticulous usage of water on a day to day
basis which is vital for the overall development of the society. Prof.
M.S. Mohan Kumar, in his key note address stressed on the various
treatment processes which is adopted by the IISC, Bangalore to treat the
sewage water and reuse it for miscellaneous purposes. Sri. Rajshekar
Puranik, Environmental Officer, KSPCB, Mangaluru, briefed about the
significance of World Water Day. Prof Purushothama C T, HOD (UG),

"SAMSTHIKA-2k15-The Skill Expo" by SMACE and SPACE Associations
“SAMSTHITA-2K15 The Skill Expo.” And “ Kaushalya- 2K15” The two days technical event was organised by Sahyadri Association of M.Tech. Civil Engineers(SAMCE) and Sahyadri Pupil Association of Civil Engineers (SPACE) at Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. 50 projects were put on display by all the participants of department of Civil Engineering from Sahyadri College of Engineering and nearby colleges. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Mr.Ranganath Aithal , Chairman, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, Mangaluru Centre. Dr. Umesh M Bushi Principal.and Prof. Umashankar B S Dean Academics.
Mr. Ranganath Aithal interacted with all the project teams and appreciated their ideas and efforts and gave them much more ideas for the betterment of the project.
Dr. Manjunath Bhandary, Chairman, Bhandary Foundation interacted with students he also motivated them to come up with more and more ideas and continue their hardworking skill. He said that it is not academics which is the criteria to excel but along with academics, talent, intelligence and passion is very important. Dr. Umesh M. Bhushi, Principal and Prof. Umashankar,Dean Academic interacted with the teams and also appreciated the participants for their work.
The day-long events witnessed students showcasing their talent in projects, Shilpi the model making, Veekshana the video collage , Anveshana (IS Code Cracking) and Jnana quiz competitions. They had the opportunity to interact with the guests individually.
Mr. Vasudev Murthy, Head, Tools Academy, Bengaluru , gave technical talk on the topic “ cement and concrete “ for the Civil Engineering students of higher semesters and for first years. He spoke about the opportunities available once they complete their post graduation. He emphasised on the urge to learn and advised them on how to get into the civil engineering profession.
During the Valedictory function prize winners were awarded certificates and cash prizes.

Edison's Project Team Emerge Outstanding
The student team from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, the ‘Edison’s Project Team’, participated in the event ‘Tathva- 2015’ conducted by the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NITC) Kozhikode, Kerala. The team participated in two events, Interface (a National Level Project Development initiative and Blueprint) and National Level Paper Presentation. The team participated in interface as two teams with 6 members. The project titled “A low cost filter unit for rural north Karnataka Districts that removes Arsenic” by Bhavyashree, Cavin Vijay Mascarenhas, Chinmay Bharan M.R., Jeethan Grinal Rodrigues, Nihal Chand and MR Radhika (IIIrd year Civil Engineering) won the third place in the Interface project competition. The other team with their project “A biogas digester for the rural scenario” by Nirmith Ashok Bangera, Arthik Rai, Ashmika S.A., Deekshith M., Jaymin Kumar Patel and Koushik M. (IIIrd year Civil Engineering) , won appreciation from the Judges. Cavin Vijay Mascarenhas and M. R. Radhika presented a paper titled, “Feasibility Study of Biogas Generation Technology in Our College Canteen”, which has been awarded the first place. Both the Projects were guided by a staff team of Dr. Gautham Jeppu, Ms. Rashmishree, Sunil Kumar, Dr. Prasanna Kumar and Dr. Savitha.

Tech Vision 2015
Tech Vision 2015, a two-day intra-collegiate project competition was held in the Campus. The main objective of this event is to inspire the young minds of the engineering students by providing them a platform to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through projects. More than 50 Lakh rupees has been spent on Student Project Support Scheme (SPSS) wherein the grants in terms of 5000, 10000, 25000 and 50000 INR are being provided to each of the qualified student projects. More than 200 projects including SPSS and Non-SPSS projects, and VTU final year projects of B.E./M.Tech/MCA students were displayed. More than 500 students participated in the event demonstrating their engineering talent. Diverse technologies were displayed such as ATVs, 3D printers, 3D aerobic planes, Sail planes, Quadracopters, Octo-copters, Multiengine test rig, wind energy pump, earthquake resistant building, low-cost water filter to name a few. Around 12 external faculty from other engineering colleges were invited as judges for this event.

Project Exhibition "Tech Vision 2014"
The two-day project exhibition “Tech Vision 2014” was inaugurated by Dr. S. G. Koolagudi, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NITK Surathkal. 152 innovative projects carried out by the students of the college were displayed for the benefit of the students and public and included an array of activities ranging from project presentation to discussions and demonstration sessions. The projects included medical, consumer electronics and agriculture applications. This exhibition fosters enhancement and encouragement of creativity. It is an endeavor to showcase the innovative talent pool blossoming in Sahyadri. Over 1000 visitors visited the exhibition stalls and appreciated the innovation and effort of the students.
Tech Vision 2013
Tech Vision 2013, an intra-college project competition and exhibition, was held in the Sahyadri Campus. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Timothy G Lenihan, Dean – Research. Over 120 projects done by Engineering and MCA students were exhibited. Prominent among them were the Automated Wheel Chair, Bio-fuel from Cotton Seeds, the Foldable Car, Automatic Floor Cleaning Machine, Sewage Water Treatment Plant, Robot for Library Usage, and Power Generation from Speed Breakers. It showcased the applications developed in the Yappon Event. The cultural and sports achievements of students were also displayed. The student projects were evaluated by a team of judges. Over 1000 visitors visited the exhibition stalls and appreciated the innovation and effort of students.
