It is a public sector undertaking, multi-product engineering company with 50 plus years if experience and expertise in engineering industry. They are serving defense, space research organization, state electricity boards, Indian Railways and general public in India and abroad. The unit visited by the students manufactured transformers. The engineers working at the unit divided students into three batches and explained the various parts of a transformer. Oil-impregnated Paper is used as an insulator for wounding of a copper coil. The lubricant oil is then poured into the container where the copper coil winding set is placed. These oils have excellent insulating property and stability at high temperatures. This oil also helps in cooling the transformer. The primary side has 3 phase star connection and secondary side has 3 phase delta connection. After assembling all parts in one container, functionality of the transformer is tested like input-output resistance, inductance etc. Established in 1968, Anna Aluminium Company Private Limited is a private firm focusing on the manufacturing of cookware including aluminium utensils, fabricated vessels, molded vessels and hard anodized non-stick cookware for healthy and safe cooking. They use 99.5% pure aluminum ingots. Kochi unit manufactures aluminum vessels and utensils. The students were taken into different manufacturing sections and the functioning of the units was explained by the company officer. The molding of a vessel is done by hydraulic machine and the finishing of the vessel is done using lathe machine. Project Based Learning
i) SPSS: The management annually sponsors student’s projects under Sahyadri Projects Support Scheme (SPSS); an initiative to drive projects based learning amongst the students. Students are rigorously challenged to solve real industrial problems, real societal issues, develop a product that solves these problems in a scientific way. Students are made to work in a group using modern tools, techniques available to find solution to a societal problem. [https://www.sahyadri.edu.in/Home/spss]
ii) The NAIN Scheme encourages students to share their ideas to solve chosen problems. The college shall provide an opportunity to covert the ideas in proof of concept and upgrade them to a level of commercial value. Faculties encourage student teams to apply their idea for funding; they guide and lead the teams towards setting up a business enterprise.
Cooperative and peer teaching and learning process
The process involves more of student’s involvement, where they are required to design various tasks and involve their peers (friends) to take up those tasks thereby improving positive relationship and garner wider friends circle. A faculty member identifies a team of 4 students (called peer team) in their subject. Class representative will be in charge of the class and the team must be prepared to engage the class. Through this program, self-directed learning skills can be enhanced. Also, the communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills will be improved.
Virtual Lab
It provides a complete learning management system where the students can avail the various tools for learning, including additional web-resources, video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation. The simulations based experiments can be accessed remotely via internet.

Industry Interaction
The department organizes industry interactions to groom the students for the corporate world.
i) Technical Talk: For the students to understand the concepts of Electronics & Communication Engineering, various talks by eminent resource personalities specialised in different aspects who have hands-on experience and who have acquired the mastery in their respective field has been organised in the department.
ii) Alumni Interaction: Alumnus working in different organizations have visited the department and interacted with students. During their interaction, they have shared their experiences and enlightened the students with different approaches for campus recruitment preparation.
Conducting Quiz
Quizzes are conducted for courses in all semesters. Questions have been framed from GATE papers. Faculty keeps a document of the quiz questions.
Group Discussion
Group Discussions is an excellent strategy for enhancing student motivation, fostering, intellectual agility and encouraging democratic habits. It create opportunities for students to practice and to sharpen a number of skills including the ability to articulate and defend positions, consider different points of view, and enlist and evaluate evidence. The group discussions are promoted in the theory and lab classes.
Aptitude Lab
Every week students spend time in the aptitude lab to improve their skills. Placement faculties along with the aptitude faculties engage this session 2hrs per week for both second and third year students. Quantitative aptitude problems will be solved and shortcuts and tricks will be taught by the aptitude faculties. Students can explore a range of mock tests and study materials.
